Whangarei Racing Club General Manager Bill Colgan says the Club is delighted with the new sponsorship and the inaugural running of the Northpine Waipu Cup. 

“We are very pleased to welcome Northpine to our stable of sponsors and supporters. We are aware they are very community-minded in assisting many local organisations, events and individuals in the Bream Bay area, so this is a good, natural ‘fit’ and will certainly add impetus to the Waipu In Tartan Festival, which celebrates a unique and distinctive heritage. Ruakaka Racing is thrilled to be involved in this midwinter festival. It will be a lot of fun.” 

In alignment with the Waipu In Tartan theme there will be spot prizes for wearing the tartan and a range of entertaining activities to celebrate the Scottish heritage of Waipu during the race meeting. 

The Northpine Waipu Cup will act as the logical lead up race for the iconic Whangarei ITM Gold Cup over 2100m a fortnight later on 23 July. 

To add to both racedays in July the Club is also offering a “Christmas in July” traditional roast lunch and beverage package as a great social club winter function or a catch up with friends and relatives that you miss in December.
